About Light in My Heart
This film is based on the original story of Dr. Kang Young-Wu, the first blind doctor of Korea, and his wife Mrs. Seok Eun-Ok. Kang Young-Wu lost eyesights when he was in the third grade of middle school as his left eye was hit by a soccer ball during the game. Then his mother was shocked to death and even his first sister died because she couldn't overcome the pain to support three orphan brothers. Young-Wu, who has to lead the family, came to open his eyes toward the new world as he meets a woman called Seok Eun-Ok under the desperate state. Through meeting her, Kang Young-Wu begins active life. He leads not only in a movement to remove the rules that is unjust for disabled, to found an eye bank, but also in establishing a library for blind and developing books in braille and recorded books. Graduating Yon Sei University as the second on the list, he marries to Eun-Ok and goes to study abroad in Pittsburg University with a scholarship of International Rotary Scholarship Foundation. During his life of studying abroad, Young-Wu overcomes hardships that he has to go through as a blind with multiplying his efforts than other students and finally becomes the first blind doctor of Korea in 3 years and 8 months. Then he is invited as a counselor of Education Committee of Gary, Indiana and stands on a platform of North Eastern Illinois University as a special proffessor.
