About Women of Yi-Dynasty
This film describes various stories of Korean women during the Yi-Dynasty who are sacrificed bound by the feudal conventions such as "wives should be submissive," "a married daughter is no better than a stranger," "the seven grounds for divorce," and "prohibit of sex in court." 1. Wives should be submissive: A woman is to marry a young husband by father's selfishness who tries to get related by marriage to an influential family. 2. A married daughter is no better than a stranger: A mother-in-law thinks the daughter-in-law has taken her son from her and makes a false charge against and kills her. 3. Seven grounds for divorce: Because of husband's sterility, the wife makes relations with a servant and kills herself. 4. Prohibit of sex in court: When a court lady gives birth to a baby who's not the son of the king, the king tries to kill her. But she barely escapes the court.
