About Jean Valjean
The hero is confined almost lifelong on charge of stealing of a piece of bread. After he is released, he enters a new life with help of a pastor. He places himself at the service of people, so he becomes mayor with people's support. But there is somebody who annoies him all the time. He is the very man who knows about the past of the hero. Because of him, he deplores a vanity in life and decides to live in retirement.
